Driving tips for Fuel Efficiency
- Following the manufacturer's suggested maintenance schedule is the best way to ensure that your vehicle is operating at maximum efficiency.
- Don't speed. Gas mileage decreases rapidly at speeds above 95 Km/hr. Each 5 Km over 90 Km to an additional 0.55 fils per gallon of gas.
- Avoid excessive acceleration- speeding, rapid acceleration and rapid braking all waste gas and curb mileage by as much as 33% at highway speeds. Sensible driving is also safer for you and others, so you may save more than gas money.
- Use cruise control to help cut fuel consumption by maintaining a steady speed during highway driving
- Avoid excessive idling of your vehicle. If you are going to be stopped for more than 10 seconds, turn your engine off-unless in traffic
- Ask your service advisor to have your suspension and chassis parts inspected for misalignment. Bent wheels, axles, bad shocks and broken springs create engine drag and are unsafe at high speeds
- use your overdrive gear to lower engine speed , save gas and reduce engine wear
- Combine trips, car pool and plan ahead to cover the shortest route possible when running errands
- Avoid packing items on top of the car. It creates wind resistance and can decrease fuel economy by 5%
- Limit hauling heavy loads. An extra 100lbs, in the trunk of your vehicle can reduce the fuel economy by 1%-2%
Tyres- Inflate and rotate
Vehicle tune-up
Battery
Air conditioner
-
You will save fuel if your reduce A/C use at lower speeds. However when driving over 40mph, A.C actually uses less fuel than when driving with windows open, because of the vehicle drag caused by open windows. An air conditioning check is the best way to avoid potential system failure
Air Filters
Fuel System
Engine Oil and Oil filter
Brakes
Belts and hoses
-
Age, harsh driving conditions, engine vibrations and coolant chemicals can cause hoses to become weak or cracked. Belts tend to wear due to heat, friction and mileage. |
